The two have since met a number of times. Their last meeting was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They signed a follow up peace deal under the auspices of King Salman of Saudi in the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General.
Whiles in Ethiopia, Afwerki joined his host in opening a sugar factory located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region, SNNPR. The Omo Kuraz III Sugar Factory was built at a project cost of over 8 billion birr and is expected to produce 1.5 tons of sugar and create jobs for 12,000 people. It is the eighth operational sugar factory in the country.
